GUAM—Delta Air Lines introduced new sleep kits and several updated amenities for passengers seated in the Economy cabin on long-haul international flights, including Trans Pacific routes connecting Japan, China, Korea, Australia and mainland U.S., as well as Japan to Hawaii, Narita to Singapore, and Narita to Bangkok. ....full story

United Airlines’ first 787-9 Dreamliner rolled out of final assembly Tuesday evening at Boeing’s Everett, Wash., facility. The rollout marks the first major milestone in the aircraft’s production ahead of its expected delivery this summer. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is the second and newest member of the fuel-efficient 787 family. With the fuselage stretched 20 feet longer than the 787-8, United’s 787-9 will fly more than 30 additional passengers and up to 300 nautical miles farther with the same exceptional environmental performance, including up to 20 percent less fuel burn per seat and up to 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized aircraft. The airline is the North American launch customer for the aircraft.....full story

Delta Air Lines this fall will equip more than 20,000 flight attendants with handheld Nokia Lumia 1520 phablets, which will serve as their on-board manual and in-flight sales device as well as a platform for future, more personalized in-flight customer service. The Lumia 1520 features a larger format, 6-inch screen and will replace the smaller Lumia 820 already in the hands of Delta on-board professionals.....full story

App offers customers new features, improved design and functionality

United Airlines launched yesterday its all-new mobile application for the Android platform, offering customers innovative new features, smoother functionality and an improved touch-friendly design that enables travelers to access information more quickly and easily. The new Android app, available at united.com/mobile, follows United’s redesign of the mobile app for the iOS 7 platform, which the airline launched last year.....full story

Sleep kits will be offered to each customer by flight attendants and will include individual eyeshades plus earplugs to help customers get better rest when traveling between continents.....full story

Delta Air Lines will launch international WiFi service on flights 283 and 295 equipped with Ku-band satellite WiFi on Boeing 747-400 aircraft departing Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Narita International Airport in Tokyo. For more than five years, Delta has provided WiFi to customers traveling on its mainline aircraft flying within the United States.....full story

Delta Air Lines released the 2015 SkyMiles U.S. Award redemption charts yesterday as part of its commitment to inform members of upcoming SkyMiles program improvements. Of the 44 Award level pricing changes, more than 95 percent of the changes reflect a decrease in the miles needed for Award Travel redemption by SkyMiles members.....full story

Fourth consecutive year airline pays profit sharing

ATLANTA—Delta Air Lines paid its employees Friday more than a half-billion dollars in earned profit sharing—the highest payout in company history—in recognition for their industry-leading performance in 2013.
