Team Skoba crowned as softball champs

After the three-day Clash of the Islands Softball Tournament last Dec. 28-30, Skoba was crowned champion over seven other CNMI teams and two Guam teams.

Skoba defeated CNMI’s Team Mamaaw, 23-13, via run mercy rule in the finals last Dec. 30 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field. There were no game stats available.

During the tourney, Skoba came out undefeated with five wins—4-0 in double elimination and 1-0 in the seeding game.

Skoba was made up of baseball players Pat Teno Jr., Eli Aughenbaugh, Anthony Salas, Nate Camacho, Poland Masaharu, Brian Camacho, Bear Alvarez, Jerald Cabrera, K.J. Villagomez, Peter Tenorio, James Benavente, Thorn Sablan, Ping Santos, Jay Kintol, and Keith Kintol.

The event was a friendship tourney between Guam and the CNMI, with Guam teams Dededank Baby Daddies, and High Rollerz, while CNMI teams also included Pound Town, Bat-titude, No Excuse, Blue Jays, Hoi Yeaah, and Bwiibwiis.

It was organized and hosted by the Dededank Baby Daddies, with a cash prize of $2,500.

Camron Takeo, organizer of the event, said that he organized the tournament with his friends from Guam. Bruce San Nicolas from the team Dededank Baby Daddies organized the two teams from Guam.

Takeo said that the Guam teams came to Saipan for a previous tourney and “saw how exciting and challenging the teams on Saipan played that made them want to come back. So, they planned to host their first Saipan tournament called the “Clash of the islands” and asked for my assistance in coordinating the field and bringing teams in to join in on the fun. In the end, it was a big success, that everyone enjoyed the games! We are hoping to do it again sometime soon!”
