Chalan Kanoa Hoosiers overhauled a five-point deficit entering the final quarter to beat the Sun Vicente Suns, 47-41, in the continuation of the Islandwide Village Youth Basketball League held at the Ada Gym last Saturday.

The scrambling win enabled the Hoosiers to keep their unblemished record of six wins and no losses. The loss, on the other hand, dislodged the Suns from second place as they fell to 4-2, half a game behind the 5-2 Garapan Verizon, which won by forfeiture against the Dare Enforcers in the first game of the weekend basketball tournament.

The Hoosiers were paced by tournament scoring leader Cris Villacrusis with a game-high 23 points. He was ably supported by Jason Lizama’s 13 points. The Suns losing cause was led by Paul Macalas’ 20 points.

In other matches, the San Antonio Sixers routed Dare Outlaws 63-37 and the Dare Regulators bested the Tanapag Young Warriors 58-40.

The Sixers broke away from a tight game in the first half, which saw them cling to a precarious four point lead, by allowing only two points from the winless Outlaws in the third quarter.

Forward-Center J.R. Ngeskebei topscored with 19 points and Brian Flores chipped in 14 points. The Outlaws were led by Roel Aranda’s 20 markers. With the win, the Sixers improved to 4-2 while the Outlaws remained winless in five outings.

The game was so lopsided in the second half that the Sixers emptied their entire bench, which allowed the crowd to see the dribbling prowess of point guard Mindi Torres.

Although she failed to connect on a couple of lay-ups, the game showed Ms. Torres could very well play with the boys.

In the last game, the Dare Regulators evened their win-loss slate to 3-3 with a convincing win against cellar dweller Tanapag Warriors, who dropped to 0-6. The winning team was led by Frank Blas’ 13 points and Pedro Ngotel’s 12 points. Donald Seidler tried to keep the game close with his 12 points to lead the Young Warriors, who seem to need a lot of growing up to do in the next few games.
