Senen Pangilinan surprised previously undefeated Larry Guerrero in the Miller Lite Invitational 8-Ball Tournament last Thursday at Round Two Bar and Grill in Garapan.

After dropping off the radar with a loss to Guerrero in the third round, Pangilinan won three tough games in the losers bracket and took two games from Guerrero in the finals to win the evening’s championship.

After getting a bye in the opening round, Pangilinan advanced with a win over David Peter. But in his next game he met up with a runaway freight train that was Guerrero and was a game away from elimination.

With his back against the wall, Pangilinan played superb pool against Santi Sablan and Manny Mariano before ambushing semifinalist Boyet Sequioco in the losers bracket finals.

Pangilinan then got back at Guerrero in the first game to reduce the championship into a one-game affair. He capped the comeback by outplaying Guerrero for all the marbles and took home $75 in prize money.

Guerrero and Sequioco settled for the $45 and $30 runner-up purses. Other pool players that graced the Thursday billiards competition were Roger Espiritu, Jerry Soriano, Ike Celis, and Joe Shaffer.

On Tuesday, Jojo Talibong finally won one at the pioneering sports bar after besting close friend Roger Espiritu in the Tuesday Ladies Handicap 8-Ball Tournament.

Talibong went undefeated during the evening. He first victimized David Peter in a second round match following a bye in the first. Talibong then relegated Keith Howard to losers bracket play before dismissing Espiritu to capture the twice-to-beat advantage in the championship.

Talibong took notes after watching Espiritu dismantle Kippy Aiken in the losers bracket finals and then applied it to beat the man they dub The Ghost in the championship.

The win was worth $40 for Talibong, while Espiritu and Aiken pocketed $25 and $15, respectively.

Curtis Newman, Kim Prinz, and Mei Hua Jin were the other entrants of the Tuesday pool event.

The Sunday Winner-Take-All Fun Tournament last June 6 had David Peter ruling the roost and winning the $55 pot.

Peter beat winners bracket topnotcher Joey Arriola twice in the finals to win the championship.

He started off by conquering Roger Espiritu and Jean Navarro before succumbing to Arriola in the semis. But Peter would rebound mightily, beating Kim Prinz in the losers bracket before upending Arriola with expert shotmaking and great position in the finals.

The Sunday tournament was also participated in by Ken Coutere, Juancho Mendoza, Donald Kapileo, Mike Cohen, Joe Shaffer, and Tony Arriola.

Round Two hosts three regular tournaments a week. The Sunday Winner-Take-All Fun Tournament starts at 1pm and entry costs is $5 per player. Depending on the number of lady participants, the competition switches from regular to an 8-ball handicap format.
