The 6th Annual Seaside Grille Beach Volleyball Weekend begins this Friday, June 18 and continuing through Sunday, June 20, at the sand courts behind Pacific Islands Club.

The tournament features two- and four-person volleyball costs $20 for doubles, while the fee for the four person co-eds is $50.

SAIWAI offers double dose of walking

Saipan Walking Association, Inc. will hold not one but two walking events this Saturday, June 19, as it celebrates the 3rd Annual Pan Pacific IVV Saipan Festival.

In the morning, the Aqua Walk gets underway beginning at 8:30am at the beach behind the Aquarius Beach Tower Hotel in Chalan Kanoa. Aqua Walk is a unique walking event offered by SAIWAI where participants wade through waist-high water.

In the afternoon of the same day, SAIWAI would also hold a 10K Sunset Walk beginning from the Chamolinian Cultural Village at 4:30pm.

Rota sets Father’s Day golf tourney

Rota Golf Association is informing all golfers that there will be a Father’s Day Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 19, at the Rota Resort and Country Club.

Tournament fee is $40 per player. Showtime is 8am and tee time is set at 8:30am. Please contact George Hocog at 532-4047 or Pete Hocog at 287-3289 for more information.

Silver Streak strikes again

The 11th Annual Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run will be held Saturday, June 19, at 6am.

The 4.2-mile run is in memory of the former president of DFS Saipan and avid runner, P. Thomas Picarro.

There will be a $5 registration fee, and all of the proceeds will be given to a local charity. There will be several age divisions and prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as first place over all men and woman. T-shirts will be given to the first 175 finishers.

Rotary caging starts June 21

The 2004 Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League will kick off on June 21 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Division of Sports and Recreation officer Elias Rangamar said from 12 to 14 teams are expected to suit up for this year’s 18-and-under basketball battles.

Entries must include team rosters, players’ proof of age, completed waiver forms, and $5 membership fee. Team must also shell out $20 for team insurance payable to AON Insurance. The cut-off date for players going on 19 years old is September 30 of this year.

FILATA kicks off CIC tourney on June 24

The Filipino-American Tennis Association will host the Century Insurance Co. Tennis Classic starting this June 24.

Entry forms are available at the CIC Ltd. Office, Dai-Ichi Hotel front desk, American Memorial Park tennis courts bulletin board, and Las Vegas Golf & Tennis Discount. Forms can also be downloaded at www.filatasaipan.cjb.net.

Entry fee per event is $8 for FILATA members and $15 for non-members. Deadline for submission of entry forms and payment is on June 18, Friday, at 5pm.

Golf great Bruce Devlin to offer lessons

Golf great Bruce Devlin will hold a golf clinic at the Kingfisher Golf Links this Friday, June 25, a day before participating in the 2nd Annual NMC Foundation Open.

Cost for a one-hour session is $90, while two-hour and three-hour sessions cost $150 and $200, respectively. Organizers have put a limit of 20 players per session.

The NMC Foundation Open is scheduled for June 26-27, at Kingfisher Golf Course. First tee time is set at 6:30am.

It features competition in six flights – Championship (0-8 handicap), A (9-13), B (14-18), C (19-up), Women’s and Seniors. First place is guaranteed $400 in cash and a roundtrip ticket, runner-up gets $350, while third place takes home $250.

Registration fee is $200 until June 21. After that the cost goes up to $300. Checks should be made payable to the “Northern Marianas College Foundation.”
