Miss Teen CNMI has new president

Miss Teen CNMI president Noby Crisostomo has appointed a Saipan Southern High School senior to replace him as the association’s president when he leaves Saipan for college today.

Miss Teen CNMI president Noby Crisostomo has appointed a Saipan Southern High School senior to replace him as the association’s president when he leaves Saipan for college today.

In an interview, Crisostomo disclosed that replacing him, as Miss Teen CNMI president is senior student Dwayne Jonathan Palacios, who helped in the Little Miss Teen CNMI and the Miss Teen CNMI pageants held earlier this year.

Appointed to serve as vice president is 2004 Miss Teen CNMI Miss Photogenic recipient Jerbeth De Leon, who is an incoming senior at the Marianas High School.

Crisostomo said the two are the best choices for the positions, noting that Palacios learned a lot from his previous involvement in the Miss Teen CNMI and Little Miss Teen CNMI pageants.

“I believe that Dwayne is able and I am confident that he can put out a good show. He learned a lot from the Miss Teen this year and I would help him even if I am away,” said Crisostomo.

Crisostomo is going to Hawaii to take a Business Management/Accounting course at the Leeward Community College this fall and Hawaii Pacific University in spring.

Although no longer active in the association, Crisostomo said he would continue serving as the chair of the Miss Teen CNMI board.

“I would still be holding the board chair position and I would be involved in the decision process but minor things would be handled by Dwayne and Jerbeth,” he said.

Crisostomo revived the Miss Teen CNMI contest in 2002 after five years of dormancy. The pageant capitalizes on the islands’ attractive and spirited school-aged girls.

In 2002, Gina Duenas was selected as 2002 Miss Teen CNMI, followed by Remylyn Julene Guerrero in 2003, who also represented the CNMI to the Miss Antilles International Beauty Pageant in Antilles.
Before Crisostomo, Crispin “Ping” Deleon Guerrero Jr., who has also been instrumental in the success of the Miss Teen CNMI, had resigned two months ago.

Guerrero, who submitted his resignation letter dated May 8, 2004, said it was a difficult decision he had to make. But he said his jobs came first. He said he found it hard this year, being on the pageant association’s board while trying to manage two jobs. Guerrero is currently employed at the CNMI Youth Congress Office as a full-time employee and works part-time at the DFS Galleria.
