Blue Jays fight off Spartans, 20-5
The Blue Jays racked up their third win of the season after they fought off the Spartans, 20-5, in the continuation of the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Masters League last Thursday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
It was over before it really even started with 11 runs scored right away by the Blue Jays in the first inning. The offensive push was started by leadoff batter Andave Camacho, but they were also assisted throughout the inning by the Spartans’ shoddy defense that led to multiple errors.
J-Boy Deleon Guerrero added three runs with a bases-clearing triple to make it 7-0, while the next batter, Ben Pangelinan, hit an RBI-double for an 8-0 game. The inning didn’t end until the Blue Jays went through the top of their lineup for a second time and scored two more runs.
For the Spartans, they went two scoreless innings against Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Kapileo, and finally tacked on three runs in the third inning. Leadoff batter Isaac Aguon, J.J. Teigita, and Ton Pangelinan went back-to-back-to-back to give them a fighting chance.
By this time however, the Blue Jays’ lead soared to 17-3 from multiple RBI singles from Jun Salalila and Paul Salalila.
The Blue Jays didn’t stop there and added three more runs in the fourth inning for a huge 17-run lead, and the Spartans’ hopes were dashed when their offense could only come up with two more runs in their last chance at-bat to end the game early.
