MVA encourages Garapan businesses to enhance area

With the Garapan Revitalization Project making headway in Saipan’s main tourist district, the Marianas Visitors Authority is inviting area businesses to join its ongoing cleanup efforts in the area.

“With the reopening of Paseo de Marianas to traffic and new landscaping and parking coming up, it’s a great time for everyone to start taking pride in their little section of our main tourist district so we can spruce up the area,” said MVA Destination Enhancement manager Raquel Aguon. “Whether that be picking up trash, sweeping in front of your businesses, painting storefronts—or for our government partners, handing out citations for littering—it’s time to take pride and give our main tourist district some TLC as the Garapan Revitalization Project enters its next phase.”

To lend a hand in the area, the MVA has been providing regular street cleaning early in the morning on key streets in the area since before the pandemic, including along Beach Road from American Memorial Park to Garapan Fishing Base, Coral Tree Avenue in front of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, Micro Beach Road from Coral Tree Avenue to the fire substation, and others.

“Obviously, street cleaning is not a primary function of the MVA, but it is something we have been helping with for several years, because Garapan has needed it,” said Aguon. “With every business, agencies, and individual taking pride and doing their part, it would really help liven up the district, which is what we all agree our destination really needs.”
