Down to his team’s final out in the last inning, Ol’Aces third baseman Jack Sablan broke open a 4-4 tie with the Comets with a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning to give his team a three-run lead before closer Franco Flores retired the side to end the game.

Sablan’s clutch three-bagger was his only hit of the night, as the Big Leaguer flied out to right field in the first inning, was fanned in the fourth, and hit into a fielder’s choice in the fifth before his late-game heroics gave the Ol’ Aces their second win of the year Tuesday night at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field, 7-4.

The lead changed hands four times throughout the seven-inning affair, and the Ol’Aces cycled through three pitchers, as Charles Mesik and Tony Palacios split time on the mound before Flores closed the door on the Comets (0-2) in the final two innings.

Mesik went three solid innings in which he allowed one run off of six hits with a trio of strikeouts and a walk, while Palacios gave up three runs off of four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Flores allowed two hits and fanned a pair in the final two innings to Hale-Bopp the Comets.

Slugger Tyrone Omar continued his run at the batting title with another big game for the Ol’Aces, as the centerfielder aided his team with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate that netted a pair of singles and runs scored for the former all-star.

Palacios also chipped in with a solid 2-for-4 night with the stick that yielded a pair of singles and one run scored, but first baseman JD Dikito led the way for the Ol’Aces with a primetime performance under the lights in Oleai.

Dikito went a flawless 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs batted in, and a run scored. He was well on his way to a fourth hit in the top of the seventh, but he was awarded with a free trip to the bag when an errant Gary Cruz pitch plunked the first baseman.

The evening action of the Big League continues tonight at the Oleai Sports Complex baseball field at 6:30pm when the Braves take on the Northern Yankees.
