Mother Nature spared the Northern Marianas from tropical storm Roke, as it headed westward yesterday towards the Philippines.

The Emergency Management Office lifted any further advisory regarding the storm, as Roke was expected to move across the Philippines and away from the Northern Marianas.

The EMO said the tropical depression intensified to storm-strength yesterday. At 9am yesterday, the EMO said the storm was located about 285 nautical miles north of Palau.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded another earthquake in the Northern Marianas early Sunday morning, but the temblor was hardly felt on Saipan.

The USGS said the quake had a magnitude of 4.0. The USGS located its epicenter about 150 miles northwest of Farallon de Pajaros in the Northern Islands and 445 north-northwest of Saipan.
