{"id":100031,"date":"2006-04-22T05:48:00","date_gmt":"2006-04-22T05:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a6eb4eec-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-04-22T05:48:00","modified_gmt":"2006-04-22T05:48:00","slug":"a6eb4efd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a6eb4efd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Home School\u2019s Splash wins DEQ Fashion Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Old magazine paper, empty fruit juice tetra-packs and recycled clothes ruled Thursday night\u2019s Division of Environmental Quality\u2019s Environmental Expo 2006 Recycle Wear Fashion Show at the Garapan Street Market.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Home School\u2019s Splash Group won first place in the Recycle Wear Fashion Competition, with a gown made of folded and interconnected paper, making it appear like the waves of the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>The group, led by Jocelyn Lonsdale, 16, walked the ramp Thursday night, with Lonsdale herself wearing the paper gown.<\/p>\n<p>Members Tikla Brown, 16, and Lakell Villegas, 12 also walked the runway to display their recycled creations. Fellow group member Jennifer Villegas assisted in dressing up the group with their unique creations.<\/p>\n<p>The group won $500 in cash. <\/p>\n<p>Lonsdale said they didn\u2019t know what to do with their winnings yet. \u201cWe can\u2019t think of anything right now what to do about our money. It could go into our group\u2019s funding,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said that, prior to the competition night, the group met three times a week to finalize their creation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a lot of work,\u201d said Lonsdale, adding that their creations were inspired by what they have seen at Wing Beach in Marpi, combined with the passion and the mission for the CNMI to always have a healthy marine life.<\/p>\n<p>Third place went to the National Honor Society of Marianas High School while Grace Christian Academy\u2019s Biology Class bagged the second runner up prize. <\/p>\n<p>DEQ director Frank Rabauliman and DEQ officers Reina Camacho and Tina Sablan led the awarding of certificates and prizes for the winners.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday night\u2019s program signaled the end of the Annual Environmental Awareness Week. <\/p>\n<p>Event chair Jonathan Arriola thanked all supporters for the success of this year\u2019s Environmental Awareness Week.<\/p>\n<p>*   *   *<\/p>\n<p>List of winners:<\/p>\n<p>LOGO CONTEST<br \/>\n1st prize &#8211; Arwin C.
