Shell Marianas announced that it successfully held another Suds for Funds carwash event last Saturday, April 22, at the Shell Puerto Rico station, with the beneficiary, the Inatuas Cultural Dancers Inc., managing to raise over $100 that will be used to help cover expenses for a planned trip to Taiwan in July.<\/p>\n
L.J. Castro, one of the group\u2019s dance instructors and coordinators, said they\u2019ve been invited to perform at the I-Lan Children\u2019s Festival, a 17-day event highlighting various Asian cultures.<\/p>\n
“This is what we\u2019ve been fundraising for,” said Castro.<\/p>\n
The Inatuas Cultural Dancers, mostly composed of kids in grade school and junior high, perform traditional and contemporary Chamorro and Polynesian dance numbers during village gatherings like fiestas, and at the regular Thursday evening street market in Garapan\u2019s Hotel Street.<\/p>\n
The group joined Guam\u2019s Dinana Minagof cultural event in February this year, where members had also been invited to perform. In July last year, the Inatuas Cultural Dancers went to Japan; and then in Korea in August, also to perform. The group was also present during last year\u2019s Kantan Isla on Rota.<\/p>\n
Suds for Funds is a monthly fundraiser jointly put together by Shell, Coca-Cola Beverage (Micronesia) Inc., which provides drinks; and Glimpses of Saipan.<\/p>\n
“We are very grateful to Shell, Coca-Cola and Glimpses of Saipan for allowing us to join in this car wash event. It definitely helps to alleviate the need to raise funds. We hope that we could do this again with them,” said Castro.<\/p>\n
The next Shell Suds for Funds is scheduled for May 27, 2006 at Shell Susupe. Interested groups may get in touch with Shirley Mendiola, station operations manager at 235-5028 for more information.<\/p>\n
