The National Track and Field Championships will not only serve as a venue for athletes to showcase their skills, but it will also serve as an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the 6th Micronesian Games.<\/p>\n
This according to Northern Marianas Athletics coaching director Elias Rangamar, who said yesterday that athletes who want to compete in the Micro Games may join the competition and make their push to qualifying.<\/p>\n
Rangamar said that registration for the event will begin at 2pm and not 12pm, which was reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to start getting people signed up at 2pm and hopefully we can get everything done by 7pm,\u201d he said, citing that if needed, the lights will be turned on and athletes will compete at night until all events are completed.<\/p>\n
He added that all events will be on the table, such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, shot put, discus, and javelin throws, as well as long and high jumps, among the many others.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt all depends on whether we have athletes that sign up for these events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Rangamar said NMA will also be accepting donations for the Micro Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were thinking of charging athletes to compete as a fundraiser for the Games, but we don\u2019t want to turn away athletes, so there\u2019ll be no charge and if anyone wants to make a donation, they\u2019ll be more than welcome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to NMA secretary general Robin Sapong, the event will feature several age categories for both men and women, including 10-and-under, 14-and-under, Open, and Masters.<\/p>\n
The top three finishers in each event will be recognized for their efforts.<\/p>\n
