The Department of Public Works is working on a big highway project on Rota that is expected to enhance the economic growth of the island, according to DPW secretary Jose S. Demapan.<\/p>\n
Demapan said assessment has been ongoing to construct a long highway from Songsong Village to the island\u2019s airport.<\/p>\n
Demapan, however, stated that there is a lot of concerns from land owners that would be affected by the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no approval yet on federal funding. But we\u2019re looking. When we have this project, we have to request for federal funding. There\u2019s a lot of things to comply with federal funding,\u201d the secretary explained.<\/p>\n
With respect to Tinian, he disclosed that as soon as they get the complete designs in a couple of months, the Route 201 and 202 Highway Project will commence construction.<\/p>\n
On Saipan, Demapan said that, besides the major Cross-Island and Talafofo Highway Projects, DPW has also been busy with the ongoing hazards elimination and marking projects.<\/p>\n
He said that under the hazards elimination project, DPW is overseeing the repair of portions of the Beach Road pathway that were damaged by typhoons. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.<\/p>\n
Under the markings project, Demapan said all the markings on the Beach Road highway have been fixed to make sure that they are visible to motorists and to avoid accidents.<\/p>\n
