Adam Turner stepped down Monday from the Commonwealth Telecommunications Commission where he had served four years as executive director.<\/p>\n
Turner attended his last CTC meeting Monday night, during which the commission handed him and chair Norman T. Tenorio plaques of appreciation recognizing their years of services.<\/p>\n
CTC vice chair J. Michael Fitzgerald and secretary Josephine DLG. Mesta gave the award to Turner and Tenorio.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like we did a great deal for the community. It was an interesting process,\u201d said Turner in an interview with the Saipan Tribune after the meeting.<\/p>\n
Underscoring the importance of telecommunications in the CNMI, Turner said he looks forward to the commission getting a new director as his replacement and moving forward.<\/p>\n
Asked about his significant contribution to CTC, the former consultant for then Gov. Juan N. Babauta cited the \u201cdevelopment of the order\u201d regarding the sale of local telecom operations of the Mircronesian Telecommunications Corp. to Pacific Telecoms Inc.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, it\u2019s been a great experience for me. This community means a lot to me and I\u2019m leaving [the commission] in good hands,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n
The commission has agreed to seek assistance from Turner during the transition period.<\/p>\n
Tenorio was not available for an interview as he immediately left the CTC office after the meeting.<\/p>\n
One of the officials present in the meeting explained that Tenorio had already expressed his intention to resign from the commission.<\/p>\n
But during Monday\u2019s meeting, Tenorio stated he was not ready yet to step down, Saipan Tribune learned.<\/p>\n
Under the law, CTC should be composed of a five-member body. The commission reviews rates, establishes service levels, resolves complaints of consumers and other issues related to telecommunications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
