{"id":100512,"date":"2006-05-09T06:45:00","date_gmt":"2006-05-09T06:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a717ce1d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-05-09T06:45:00","modified_gmt":"2006-05-09T06:45:00","slug":"a717ce30-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a717ce30-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Man stabs worker, chases others at hotel barracks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of workers who were playing cards outside their barracks scampered for safety when a man allegedly approached, stabbed one with a knife, and chased them in San Roque early Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said the suspect, 44-year-old Silvestre Ascura Hannibal, turned off the power to the barracks before responding police officers spotted and subdued him.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the victim, Rodolfo Sasota Ramirez, suffered a cut to the neck and shoulder. He was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center and later released after treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Hannibal was brought to the Superior Court yesterday on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. <\/p>\n<p>Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $50,000 cash bail for the defendant\u2019s temporary liberty and set the preliminary hearing for May 18 at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Ramirez and other friends were playing cards at 2am outside the Nikko Hotel barracks when Hannibal came out from his room holding a butcher knife.<\/p>\n<p>Hannibal suddenly allegedly stabbed Ramirez on the right side of the neck, then again stabbed him on the upper right shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>The victim and his friends fled their seats and ran to the front of the barracks.<\/p>\n<p>Hannibal, still holding the knife, chased the group. The bloodied victim ran to the front parking lot of the barracks then locked himself inside his room.<\/p>\n<p>Hannibal walked to the generator house and turned off the power, plunging the entire barracks in darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Police came and the power was restored. Police spotted Hannibal hiding in the bushes at the back of the building. The officers subdued the suspect and disarmed him.<\/p>\n<p>The motive was not clear yet.
