Marianas High School student Joevan Mesik recently completed his three-month cooperative education training with the Marianas Visitors Authority on May 18, 2006. <\/p>\n
In partnership with the MHS\u2019s Cooperative Education program, students enrolled in this course had the opportunity to gain first-hand work experience. Mesik received training in various divisions of MVA. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe first mind-breaking division that I was involved in was the Marketing division,\u201d said Mesik. <\/p>\n
In the Marketing division, Mesik assisted with several VIP greetings at the airport and also assisted with the creation of a Tourism Month ad campaign. <\/p>\n
\u201cI learned that marketing wasn\u2019t just about selling a product, it was about creating a product that left your customers amazed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the Public Relations and Community Programs division Mesik had the opportunity to visit the main attraction sites in Marpi. <\/p>\n
\u201cI took note of what had to be repaired or replaced in order to maintain the sites,\u201d said Mesik. \u201cI was also involved in some events like the Ayuda Fun Run where I gained valuable preparation and organizational skills.\u201d <\/p>\n
Mesik was also assisted at the Taste of the Marianas. \u201cI saw how hectic it was and experienced the true meaning of the word: \u2018Teamwork\u2019!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWorking at MVA exceeded my expectations. I was given many projects without any hesitation. From creating ad proposals, to organizing meetings, I was occupied with work the whole time!\u201d said Mesik. <\/p>\n
Mesik\u2019s experience at MVA has taught him the importance of tourism and how it relates to the economy, hospitality toward visitors and teamwork. Mesik has expressed his interest in majoring in tourism and hospitality at the Northern Marianas College. <\/p>\n
