Saipan Bowling Association official Ross Zapanta yesterday thanked bowlers that participated in the organization\u2019s successful staging of the 24th May Masters Tenpin Bowling Tournament last weekend.<\/p>\n
The SBA treasurer said if he would rate the event in a scale of 1-10, he would give it a nine because of the large turnout of this year\u2019s May Masters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would rate it a nine this year because we have 23 ladies out of possible 24 slots and 33 men out of 36. I am also very happy to note that a lot of new bowlers joined the masters event for the first time,\u201d he said. \u201cIn the past, the attitude of a lot of bowlers was that \u2018I have no chance to win the masters so why join.\u2019 Now bowlers have a more positive attitude toward competition. Most of them are no longer intimidated by the veteran bowlers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The longtime Office of Public Auditor employee also congratulated May Masters top winners Robert Talavera and Hea Jin Su, who won the men\u2019s and women\u2019s masters, respectively. <\/p>\n
He also had nice words to say to the winners of the all-events, singles, doubles, and team categories of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s divisions.<\/p>\n
Zapanta also expressed his gratitude to this year\u2019s May Masters sponsors, most notably MARPAC and Budweiser for contributing over $2,000, including the beer and other giveaways during the banquet and the two Brunswick bowling balls that were raffled off and won by PhilCon\u2019s Tony David and Pacific Telecoms, Inc.\u2019s Chester Bai.<\/p>\n
He also thanked JET Holdings\u2019 Juan S. Tenorio for giving away $1,500 and the lane fee discount and SBA president Jerry Tan and Saipan Grand Hotel for hosting the awards banquet, which cost was in the neighborhood of $1,500.<\/p>\n
PTI also got some love from Zapanta for donating two camera phones that were awarded to Talavera and Su for their wins in the masters events. <\/p>\n
Marianas Visitors Authority was also cited for its donation of $500. Zapanta also thanked brothers Dong and Simeon Eparwa, Saipan Bowling Center\u2019s maintenance men, for making sure that the lane and machines were well maintained and in good working order during the tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
