The Rotary Club of Saipan is holding its second annual Radio Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, June 10, 2006, from 8am to 12 noon in order to raise additional funds for its community service projects. <\/p>\n
Items to be auctioned were generously donated by various businesses within the community. A description of the items available for bid is aired daily over KZMI-FM and KCNM-AM radio.<\/p>\n
The Rotary Club of Saipan encourages everyone to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity. Items will be listed on the Saipan Tribune this week. Starting bid prices will be 10 percent off an item\u2019s retail value. <\/p>\n
Interested bidders should tune into KCNM-AM this Saturday morning. Multiple items will be opened for bidding simultaneously, with the larger items remaining open for a longer time. Bidders will be required to provide their name and two contact telephone numbers. Winners will be announced as each item closes. Some items can be claimed that day. Larger items or items held at donating-businesses can be claimed on Monday, June 12. Winners will be called to verify their winning bid(s) and provided with any additional instructions. Bidders must provide payment in full to claim the item on which they submitted the winning bid.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year\u2019s radio auction was such great fun and so successful we just had to include this event in our fundraising activities again this year. Our goal is to raise additional money for our community service projects,\u201d said Laurie Peterka, director of Club Services, Saipan Rotary Club.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Rotary Club contributes thousands of dollars to the community annually. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis year we devoted money to multiple projects, including the first annual Parade of Books, Saipan Southern High School\u2019s Music program, PSS\u2019s Vocational Development program, the Lake Susupe Rehabilitation project, the Rotary Youth Basketball League, Fire Victims support, Guma Esperansa, Community Tree Planting, various scholarship awards, holiday meals for the Office of Aging and the list goes on and on!\u201d said Peterka.<\/p>\n
In addition to these projects, the Rotary Club of Saipan has been organizing and plotting out plans to install a skate board park. Each of its fundraising events contributes additional funds to this special account. Dennis Yoshimoto, a past president of the Saipan Rotary Club, is the lead Rotarian for the skate board park project. Yoshimoto is working with various government agencies and Chuck Sayon of the American Memorial Park to establish a location within the park. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn order to secure the land and a cooperative agreement with the Park, we have to follow some strict rules and guidelines for establishing this as a joint project with American Memorial Park. We are taking these steps to ensure the quality, safety, and eventual maintenance of such a project. As a club, our membership voted to establish and maintain a fund that is dedicated to these objectives,\u201d said Yoshimoto.<\/p>\n
