Kelvin Fitial banked in a running jumper just as time expired to lift Joshua over Elijah, 83-82, in a tightly fought game Monday night in the 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup.<\/p>\n
It was a bitter defeat at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai for the now 2-2 Elijah, as the team had a chance to go up by three points with seconds left in the ballgame, but flubbed two tries from the free throw line.<\/p>\n
With almost no time left, Joshua point guard Rene Pe hurriedly brought down the ball to the other end of the court and then spotted a streaking Fitial on the baseline for the running game-winner.<\/p>\n
It was the third win in four games for Joshua, which led after all three quarters\u201416-14, 37-28, 53-50\u2014only to give up the lead, as Triggerman Sonny Lerio heated up in the fourth with 15 points that almost gave Elijah the win.<\/p>\n
Jeff Garcia paced Joshua with 26 points, while Fitial and underrated big man Gil Gapor had 17 and 15 points, respectively.<\/p>\n
Lerio was unstoppable the entire game and wound up with 39 points, but failed to get h is teammates involved.<\/p>\n
In the first game, J.R. Barrios, Ronald Delos Reyes, and Edel Carino each scored 22 points or more to lead Caleb to a 98-89 win over Nehemiah.<\/p>\n
The 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup continues tomorrow with Daniel taking on Jeremiah in the first game. The second game will then feature Isaiah squaring off against Hosea.<\/p>\n
