A Japanese tourist drowned while swimming at the Managaha Island yesterday morning.<\/p>\n
Saipan Tribune learned that the victim, a 61-year-old woman, was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center where she was pronounced dead by a doctor at 10:30am.<\/p>\n
This is the seventh drowning incident in the CNMI so far this year.<\/p>\n
Sources at the Department of Public Safety disclosed that the drowning incident was reported to police at 10:14am.<\/p>\n
Police said the victim was swimming with some companions on Managaha Island. While the victim was snorkeling in the swimming zone, a lifeguard, who was in the lifeguard house, observed her struggling in the deep part of the water.<\/p>\n
The lifeguard jumped in the water as several other swimmers shouted for help. The lifeguard took the woman to the shoreline where he then applied CPR on her.<\/p>\n
The victim vomited, but later lost consciousness.<\/p>\n
A Tasi Tour boat brought the victim to Smiling Cove Marina where responding medics, who were waiting in an ambulance, brought her to CHC.<\/p>\n
On Oct. 30, a 36-year-old Chinese female tourist also drowned while swimming with some tourists on Managaha Island.<\/p>\n
On June 27, two Japanese tourists drowned at Obyan Beach on Saipan and at Long Beach on Tinian.<\/p>\n
On March 6, former Rota Resident Director for Finance Vicente S. Atalig drowned while fishing at the Swimming Hole Beach on Rota.<\/p>\n
In the latter part of March, a Japanese female tourist drowned on Rota.<\/p>\n
