{"id":106825,"date":"2006-12-08T18:28:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-08T18:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a9df284b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-12-08T18:28:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-08T18:28:00","slug":"a9df285b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a9df285b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"GTA starts typhoon donation drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[B]TAMUNING, Guam[\/B]\u2014GTA is collaborating with the Filipino Community of Guam to support the fun-raising efforts for the victims of Typhoon Durian that recently wreaked havoc in several eastern provinces in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGTA is the first business entity to respond to local relief efforts and we welcome their contribution,\u201d said FCG president Nita Baldovino, of GTA\u2019s gesture. GTA approached the FCG Thursday on its offer to start a fundraising drive. Baldovino says the local fundraising campaign is a community-wide effort and open to individuals and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Knight, GTA\u2019s executive vice president of sales &#038; marketing, explained, \u201cAs a corporate citizen, GTA feels it\u2019s important to do our part to help ease the sufferings of the victims of Typhoon Durian. GTA will kick off our drive with a $5,000 donation to the Philippine National Red Cross with liaison through the FCG. We will also match $5 for every purchase of GTA\u2019s family of products and services that customers make, up to an additional $5,000. Customers buying our services or products between Dec. 8 and the 20th of this month, when the fundraising drive is ongoing, also get chances to win $10,000 from our holiday Cash Mo\u2019ney promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knight added that the Guam community has a close kinship with the people of the Philippines because many Filipino Guam residents have relatives there. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the season of giving so where we can help to alleviate the untimely misfortunes that the victims of Typhoon Durian are now going through during the Christmas season, we\u2019re very glad to do so,\u201d said Knight.<\/p>\n<p>GTA\u2019s donation drive began yesterday at the MPULSE store at the Agana Shopping Center and at the main Tamuning customer office through end of the year. Additionally, GTA has set up collection containers at its two stores for customers and employees to donate money.<\/p>\n<p>Baldovino says the fundraising drive is on indefinitely but the FCG is aiming to remit the first amount collected on Dec. 20 to the Philippine National Red Cross so that the money can be used to help the victims during the Christmas period.<\/p>\n<p>GTA is Guam\u2019s leading full-service telecommunications company providing fixed landline communications to nearly 65,000 business and residential customers; mobile phone service, long-distance, dial-up and broadband Internet service and digital TV.
