Tyrone Omar and Melvin Tagabuel gave the CNMI a boost while competing in Day 2 of the Oceania Grand Prix at Xavier College in Ba, Fiji.<\/p>\n
Omar finished third in his heat and 10th overall in the men\u2019s 100m sprint with a time of 11.30 at the Lawaqa Fiji Sports Council Grounds in Sigatoka.<\/p>\n
The youthful runner came in after Henry Ben of Papua New Guinea (11.10) and Jack Iroga (11.27) in their heat.
\nDaley Duan of Australia topped the men\u2019s 100m in a time of 10.96 followed by Moses Kamut of Vanuatu (10.98) and Andrew Doomar of Papua New Guinea (11.09).<\/p>\n
Tagabuel, for his part, finished second in the men\u2019s shot put and third in the men\u2019s discus with throws of 11.87 meters and 36.23 meters, respectively.<\/p>\n
Tagabuel finished second only behind Solomoni Qisavola of Fiji, who topped the shot put with a throw of 13.19 meters. Taking the bronze was Brendan Peeters of Australa (10.97 meters), while placing fourth was compatriot Raymond Abdy (9.72 meters).<\/p>\n
Peeters was tops in the discus with his throw of 37.68 meters followed by Fiji\u2019s Jone Tagivetaua (36.56 meters), while the NMI\u2019s Sylvan Luis P. Rangamar finished fourth with his throw of 28.98.<\/p>\n
A fourth CNMI athlete, Dexter Dillay, competed in the men\u2019s long jump and came in sixth with a leap of 5.78. Fiji\u2019s Filimoni Ratusaki took the gold with a jump of 6.50 meter followed by Australia\u2019s Jay Stone (6.27 meters) and Nathaniel Franklin (6.04).<\/p>\n
The second race was originally planned to be held at the Post Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva, but was moved due to ongoing conflicts between the Fiji government and the country\u2019s military.
\nCompetitors headed to Apia, Samoa for the third and final leg of the Series yesterday, but results were still not available as of press time. The third leg was held in conjunction with the 2006 Oceania Under 18\/Open Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
