{"id":107048,"date":"2006-12-15T20:44:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-15T20:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a9e43373-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-12-15T20:44:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-15T20:44:00","slug":"a9e43389-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a9e43389-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Continental hosts Chinese travel agents\u2019 Guam tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[B]TUMON, Guam[\/B]\u2014In an effort to foster more interest in Guam as a travel destination among Chinese travelers, Continental Airlines hosted a familiarization tour to the island for some of the country\u2019s leading travel agents. <\/p>\n<p>The group arrived on Guam Tuesday, Dec. 12, and embarked on a tour of some Guam\u2019s many scenic, historic, and cultural sites. In addition to enjoying Guam\u2019s natural beauty, the group was also eager to do some shopping and visit a few of the golf courses. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGolf is very popular in China,\u201d said Han Xing Gu, executive vice president of Sales &#038; Marketing for one of China\u2019s leading travel agencies, China International Travel Service, \u201cIn Beijing, we have 120 golf courses and still must wait for a reservation to play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a luncheon hosted by the Guam Visitors Bureau, the group of China\u2019s leading travel agencies spoke freely about their country\u2019s interest in travel and encouraged Guam to continue seeking ways to improve its prospective visa waiver policies with China. <\/p>\n<p>According to marketing manager and acting general manager of GVB, Pilar Lagua\u00f1a, the bureau has been working with determination to promote the importance that having a visa waiver program with China could mean for Guam and the economy. GVB has also been focused on maintaining an awareness of Guam as a travel destination in China as the country\u2019s traveler market prepares to increase dramatically. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next 24 months, we expect to see some significant changes in the Chinese market,\u201d said Lagua\u00f1a, \u201cand the GVB has been strategizing for quite some time to secure Guam\u2019s piece of this very lucrative pie. Although Guam does not currently have ADS [Approved Destination Status] with China, we\u2019re still planning ahead, knowing it could and may very well change.
