{"id":120979,"date":"2008-03-20T16:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-20T16:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/af65d839-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2008-03-20T16:28:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-20T16:28:00","slug":"af65d852-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/af65d852-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"FHB warns Guam merchants of phone scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[B]HAG\u00c5T\u00d1A, Guam[\/B]\u2014First Hawaiian Bank is warning the public and its merchant customers about a phone scam involving a telemarketing company that has been calling merchants and identifying itself as First Hawaiian Bank. <\/p>\n<p>The telemarketer, claiming to be calling from First Hawaiian Bank, informs the merchant that their credit card terminal equipment is about to be expired and can be renewed for $99.  They then proceed to request the merchant\u2019s bank account and routing number to have the monthly renewal charge deducted from their account.  <\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, First Hawaiian Bank said it does not request account number information, bank routing numbers, or a customer\u2019s PIN number by phone. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bank is reminding people who think that they have received a suspicious phone call to not sign up for any of the services offered by phone,\u201d FHB said.<\/p>\n<p>If they suspect that they have received a fraudulent phone call, they should contact their banker, the nearest branch or call First Hawaiian Bank\u2019s 24-hour Customer Service Center at 1-800-545-6300.  <\/p>\n<p>First Hawaiian Bank ($12.6 billion assets) was founded in 1858 and is Hawaii\u2019s oldest and largest bank.  It has 58 branches in Hawaii, three on Guam and two in Saipan.  It is a subsidiary of BancWest Corporation (www.bancwestcorp.com), a financial holding company.
