Effective this week, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela drastically reduced the delivery of public services due to the difficulty of buying enough fuel for his office\u2019s vehicles. <\/p>\n
Public services affected include all water truck deliveries, all quarry operations and coral deliveries, all road repairs, junk car removal, site preparations for wakes and funerals, village cleanups, and beautification projects.<\/p>\n
According to the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office, funds are available in the office\u2019s account but payments cannot be made separately. Payments are now consolidated, which makes it even difficult to make payments. <\/p>\n
Last January, the mayor suspended the delivery of services on the island for five days due to the lack of fuel. <\/p>\n
Tudela also said that work repairs and beautification work on the road to Mt. Tapochau has been finally completed, in time for today\u2019s Good Friday trek. It has become an annual tradition for many of the island\u2019s Catholic devotees to hike to the top of Mt. Tapochau every Good Friday as a form of penance.<\/p>\n
Tudela said he looks forward to seeing promising weather today and asked for the public\u2019s patience during the reduction of public services. <\/p>\n
He assured people that the situation will not last long and an announcement is expected soon when full delivery of public services would resume. <\/p>\n
