Local advocacy group Taotao Tano CNMI Inc. is urging Rep. Ray Yumul to apply the civil service status conversion not just to the Legislative Bureau staff but to all government and autonomous government employees.<\/p>\n
Group president Greg Cruz said this would ensure comprehensive job security for all.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conversion of the Legislative Bureau employees employment to civil service status is a noble cause, especially in these economic times and uncertainties. We hope that the same noble cause can be extended\u2026across the board for no one has to live in fear of losing a job,\u201d Cruz said.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that majority of government employees\u2014whether on contract or permanent\u2014have families and obligations to fulfill daily and monthly. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a critical and sensitive issue warranting a priority in consideration for all other government and autonomous employees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Cruz described as barbaric, unjust, and oppressive the clause in employment contracts relating to the termination of an employee with or without cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt should be removed or stricken out from pre-employment contracts and existing employment contracts. Again, we stress further that an employee\u2019s livelihood should be given due consideration and taken into account, especially if he or she is the head of household,\u201d he said.
