The haze present on the islands yesterday was not due to vog from the active Anatahan Volcano, according to the CNMI Emergency Management Office<\/p>\n
In a public advisory issued late afternoon, EMO sought to allay concerns about the haze, saying that the hazy weather condition is not related to the volcano of Anatahan since the wind direction is from south-southwest heading northeast and wind speed is light and variable.<\/p>\n
It did not say, however, where the haze is coming from.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisible satellite imagery suggests the haze will not be quite as thick as yesterday…although a temperature inversion in the lower atmosphere will help concentrate the haze by trapping it closer to the ground,\u201d EMO said. \u201cWinds are expected to continue bringing haze into the Marianas today but the winds are expected to shift toward the east later today and tonight, allowing the haze to diminish.\u201d <\/p>\n
EMO advised residents with respiratory ailments to avoid venturing outdoors for long periods until conditions improve.<\/p>\n
