Norita said yesterday that DPS personnel should not expect any promotions under the current financial condition of the government<\/p>\n<p>Norita said that, in fact they will be cutting or reducing overtime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sat down with DPS employees last week and I was very clear to each everyone of them that I don\u2019t see any light in regards to promotion at the end of the tunnel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Norita said there are some issues of promotion among certain personnel, but that happened before he was appointed acting commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that promotion issues would not happen under his administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand where they\u2019re standing and the financial concerns they have. But I also told them we\u2019re going to be cutting overtime. We will be reducing overtime,\u201d Norita said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to be also responsible in the financial life that they live. They need to stay within their means,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner said it should be a mutual agreement between the DPS administration and the employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to understand that, one way or the other, overtime will be cut or reduced. One way or the other, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for any promotions,\u201d  he pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it occurs it is probably for a minimal amount, but it\u2019s out of my hands. If there is an infusion of $20 million somewhere in the system, I will be the first one to grab some of those money for DPS,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Department of Public Safety Acting Commissioner Claudio K.
