{"id":121584,"date":"2008-04-08T20:27:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T20:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/afc608b5-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2008-04-08T20:27:00","modified_gmt":"2008-04-08T20:27:00","slug":"afc608c6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/afc608c6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 400 students participate in DEQ environmental exhibit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 400 students got the chance to learn how things work in protecting the environment during an environmental exhibit yesterday at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. <\/p>\n<p>Students from the Oleai Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, and Marianas High School participated in hands-on demonstrations provided by various government agencies and private organizations. <\/p>\n<p>Students learned how water is tested for bacteria or other microorganisms, how electricity works and how to conserve it, how to safely dispose of pesticides and other solid wastes, among others. <\/p>\n<p>They also gathered information on toxic waste management, marine monitoring, boating safety, wildlife enforcement, and coral reef outreach, among others. <\/p>\n<p>Division of Environmental Quality spokesperson Reina Camacho said the environmental exhibit is a two-day event held from 9am-12pm. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe environmental exposition is a series of activities DEQ is holding in celebration of Environmental Awareness Month,\u201d Camacho said. <\/p>\n<p>Private sector participants include Ace Hardware, Allied Pacific Environmental Consulting, Island Apparel, Marianas Resource Conservation and Development, Microl Corp., Natural Resources Conservation Service, and No\u2019 Ka\u2019 Oi Termite and Pest Control. <\/p>\n<p>Today is the last day of the environmental exposition.
