New Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Antonio Muna is optimistic that the financially troubled situation at CUC can be turned around.<\/p>\n
In a press conference, Muna said he had a meeting with CUC managers and financial personnel yesterday and he just realized that the agency has the necessary assets and that it is just a matter of giving the staff the proper direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we go through this process of assessment, my optimism is going to increase, hopefully as we go on,\u201d said Muna, who assumed as replacement for Anthony C. Guerrero effective yesterday.<\/p>\n
The executive director said CUC personnel will see performance from him and that he also expects that from all the staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cPerformance. That\u2019s the bottom line. We\u2019ve got to perform,\u201d Muna stressed.<\/p>\n
He said he would be the first one to get out from CUC if he feels he is not adequate for the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be above performance. We want to quantify it. We want to communicate it. We\u2019re going to expect it that they (personnel) achieve whatever performance goals everyone is given,\u201d Muna said.<\/p>\n
With respect to the ongoing rehabilitation at the power plants, Muna said he wants to ensure that the timeline that Gov. Benigno R. Fitial stated in the State of the Commonwealth Address will be followed and that the contractor\u2019s work will stay as scheduled.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not just looking at this from a day-to-day process. We\u2019re looking at it as projected out for the next six to 12 months. Our findings will be communicated to the public and that\u2019s what we intend to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On his appointment, Muna said it came as a request from Fitial.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs far as my standpoint, it\u2019s just answering the call for public service,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Muna said he believes that his 20 years\u2019 experience in managing, accounting, and public service will help him in his new position.<\/p>\n
Muna had resigned as budget official for the Fitial administration in December 2007, but stayed on as a financial adviser to the governor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
