An alien worker has filed a lawsuit over the injuries he suffered when an occupied vehicle rolled onto a highway and hit his truck in Chalan Kiya.<\/p>\n
Lan Lin sued Juan Iglecias Blas for negligence. Lin\u2019s employer and owner of the truck, US-CNMI Development Corp., also joined as co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n
The plaintiffs, through counsel Eric S. Smith, asked the Superior Court to order Blas to pay them past and medical expenses, lost wages, damages, court costs, and attorney\u2019s fees.<\/p>\n
Smith stated in the complaint that on Dec. 17, 2007, at 8:30pm, Lin was driving his employer\u2019s 1997 Nissan truck on Beach Road in Chalan Kiya.<\/p>\n
As Lin was traveling north on the highway, an unoccupied blue 1996 Toyota vehicle owned by Blas rolled onto the highway and collided with the truck.<\/p>\n
Smith said Blas had told a responding police officer that he had pulled off Beach Road and parked his vehicle at a store. Blas apparently went inside the establishment, but he failed to engage his vehicle\u2019s handbrake. While the defendant was inside the store, the vehicle rolled onto the street and collided with plaintiffs\u2019 truck.<\/p>\n
Smith said the collision of the two vehicles caused substantial damage to Lin\u2019s truck.<\/p>\n
\u201cLin sustained painful, permanent, and disabling injuries to his body and was otherwise bruised, cut, lacerated, strained, sprained, and injured,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
The lawyer said his client was required to undergo medical treatment and was unable to report to work.<\/p>\n
\u201cDefendant Blas carelessly and negligently operated and controlled the Toyota, such that it rolled from its position at the market parking area into plaintiffs\u2019 truck hitting it with great force and violence, causing the driver injuries, great pain, soreness, and serious shock,\u201d Smith added. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
