{"id":125057,"date":"2008-08-05T22:32:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-05T22:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b0f0a87e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2008-08-05T22:32:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-05T22:32:00","slug":"b0f0a892-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/b0f0a892-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Sorensen Media Group donates $2.24K to OES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oleai Elementary is more than $2,000 richer, thanks to a donation from Sorensen Media Group.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Tina Palacios, operations manager for Sorensen, presented the school with an educational tax credit for $2,236.62. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, Palacios decided all tax credits would go to CNMI public schools, not private schools, as had previously been the case. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to private school, but I realized I should give it to someone who\u2019s not making money,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Palacios tried to donate the money to Hopwood Junior High School, a school Sorensen donated $2,700 in tax credits to in April, but because of scheduling conflicts, Palacios was not able to present the check to anyone. <\/p>\n<p>The longer she waited to give the check away, the more it was taxed, so she decided to call Oleai Elementary instead, she said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI called the Oleai principal and said, \u2018I\u2019ll be there,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cOf course they said, \u2018I want it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In April, Palacios told Saipan Tribune, Sorensen challenged all businesses, big or small, to donate their tax credit as well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a tax break. So why not give them to schools where they really need it.
