Federal officials will host a training session next week on Saipan to help local businesses prevent identity theft.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office said the training session at the Pacific Islands Club Sept. 3 is \u201can effort to protect the privacy of consumer information and reduce the risk of fraud and identity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The training will include an overview of ways to prevent identity theft and applicable local and federal laws on the issue. <\/p>\n
According to Better Business Bureau statistics, more than 9 million people fall victim to identity theft each year and for the last five consecutive years it has proven to be the top consumer complaint heard by the Federal Trade Commission. <\/p>\n
Speakers at the event will include federal prosecutors, a postal inspector and U.S. Secret Service agents. The training will take place from 8am to noon in the resort\u2019s NAPU room. Contact 479-4144 to register. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
