For a change the player with the lowest gross score wound up winning the competition during Fil-Taga Golfers Association August Ace of the Month Tournament held last Sunday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course.<\/p>\n
Leo Ganacias carded a tourney best 75 gross, which after his six handicap was deducted, still gave him the day\u2019s top net score at 69.<\/p>\n
The score was a shot better than the 70 registered by Fred Cataluna, whose 10 handicap allowed him to reduce his gross 80 to the second-best net score of the day.<\/p>\n
June winner Rey Ferraz actually tied Cataluna with his net 80, but was relegated to third place after losing in a scorecard tiebreak. Ferraz, who has a 21 handicap, came away with a gross of 91.<\/p>\n
Rene Batallones and Dan Ganacias complete the Top 5 with identical net scores of 71. Batallones needed 84 strokes to finish the tournament but his score improved with his 13 handicap. Ganacias, meanwhile, hit a 90 gross but his score was whittled down by his 19 handicap.<\/p>\n
A total of 15 golfers took part in the August Ace. The rest of the field, with their net scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Nestor \u201cDodong\u201d Siruelo (73); July Ace Ted Malaran (73); James Lin (74); February Ace and Senate President Pete Reyes (75); January Ace Mando Guban (75); John Matsumoto (75); Jhun Calma (78); Mike Cruz (79); March Ace Nono Bostre (80); and May Ace Henry Bautista (81).<\/p>\n
April Ace Butch Sigua didn\u2019t play in last weekend\u2019s golf tourney.<\/p>\n
Fil-Taga\u2019s officers are led by president Jun Dela Cruz Jr., vice-president Jhun Calma, secretary Manny Po, and treasurer Guban.<\/p>\n
Its board of directors is made up of Fr. Manny Corcuera, Miguel Cruz, Jr., Ted Malaran, Gil Faller, Rey Ferraz, Greg De Torres, Rene Batallones, Nestor Siruelo, and George Sablan<\/p>\n
Established in 1993, Fil-Taga\u2019s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.<\/p>\n
A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
