Some 60 parents of children with special needs joined a three-day training co-sponsored by the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities and CNMI Association of Families with Disabilities at the Charley\u2019s Cabaret of the Pacific Islands Club on Aug. 25-27.<\/p>\n
Headed by its president, Liza Ada, AFD is a private initiative group that has been organizing the annual training since 2005 with the motto \u201cOne Family Serving Families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Service Navigator Rhea Chong said they have different themes and topics every year. This year, the theme centered on \u201cMaking the IEP Work for Parents and Children.\u201d<\/p>\n
The topics discussed during yesterday\u2019s last day of training, which was presented by resource speaker Susan Yuan included \u201cHow to Exercise Parents Rights\u201d; \u201cFamilies Developing Interactions\u201d; Coordinating with Developmental Disabilities Council\u201d; and Transitioning to Employment or Higher Education.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chong said a total of 20 individuals registered on the first day on Monday, 60 on Tuesday and 50 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Individuals with disabilities also joined the training as well as and some were teachers.<\/p>\n
As a non-profit organization, AFD secures support for the Family Hope Center.<\/p>\n
