Over 50 alien workers, mostly longtime workers on Saipan, cleaned up the pathway from Kilili Beach all the way to 13 Fishermen in Garapan yesterday.<\/p>\n
The workers, mostly Filipinos, volunteered their time to make the pathway safer for walkers and joggers by removing the debris along the long stretch of the pathway.<\/p>\n
After sweeping the leaves and other debris that accumulated on the pathway over the years, the workers used a blower as a finishing touch.<\/p>\n
It was the first time that the pathway received blower work since it was constructed many years ago.<\/p>\n
It took the alien workers over four hours to finish the cleanup. They collected several truckloads of debris and trash.<\/p>\n
The workers and their children ended up their community project with a barbecue picnic held at a pavilion near the 13 Fishermen Monument. <\/p>\n
Before and after the cleanup the workers had short discussions about the federalization process, improved immigration status, and other issues.<\/p>\n
The House of Representatives recently \u201ckilled\u201d a bill that proposed to grant improved immigration status to long-time guest workers in the CNMI.<\/p>\n
Dekada Movement president Bonifacio Sagana said the cleanup was too tiring because of its distance and due to large amount of debris that they collected.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we are very happy because somehow we make the pathway safer for joggers and walkers now,\u201d Sagana said.<\/p>\n
