Norman said the student met the requirements necessary to complete the sophomore year at a private school, but because he did not meet the requirements set by the public school, he was going to be held back. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just concerned because this has never been a problem before,\u201d Norman said. \u201cI\u2019ve always assumed before&#8230;that the transfers have gone smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Private school students must complete 24 credits to graduate while public school students must complete 28 credits. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking more than anything else at student achievement,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you compare student achievement, there should be some way to transfer out of the private school to public school without any penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Board of Education member Galvin Deleon Guerrero agreed with Norman that a board committee should look at this issue and make sure both public and private schools are focusing on standards and benchmarks.
