We are Saipan’s future, as they like to put it.

I have to say that, while I was sitting in my classroom at the end of the school year for my freshman year, I had no problems with the outages since they were at a consistent two-hour outage and nothing more. Now that we cannot rely on CUC’s schedule at all, everyone cannot help but be angry. If CUC says that the outage will be from 1pm to 3pm, I’d like to believe it instead of having a surprise outage from 8pm to 12pm.

As much as we rotate feeders, why can’t they turn the feeders off during decent hours when we still have daylight and wind? Children will start going outdoors and I’m sure everyone will be happier when they’re healthier. As to when we have no power at night, everyone turns to restaurants and gorges themselves on food until we know for sure that we have power.

And why are all the engines suddenly down? Has CUC not been maintaining them properly for the past decade? Where is the money from the surcharges going? If it’s fuel, then I do not see how they cannot have money left since there has been a 61-cent decline.

Another thing I’d like to ask our governor: Why are you so against federalization? It would greatly help since we are in so much debt. We cannot keep borrowing money out of this and I’m sure your plan is no better. People should swallow their pride and ask for help if they know they need it.

Brittany Sablan
As Lito, Saipan

Saipan must be tired of hearing about CUC and the bad economy, but I think they need to hear from the children of the CNMI.
