A rejuvenated Susupe Beach Park was returned to the community during its formal re-launching yesterday\u2014just in time for this week\u2019s Thanksgiving celebration.<\/p>\n
Tan Holdings Corp., led by its president and CEO Jerry Tan, cleaned up the area two weekends last October and this month\u2014removing trash and unwanted debris, fixing and splattering new paint on the pavilions, and even replacing the roof of the main stage that was blown away by a storm years back.<\/p>\n
The addition of a new roof for the stage\u2014made with the help of contractor Reliance Construction\u2014was one of the highlights of the restoration project. <\/p>\n
Volunteers also took the time to paint the walls and water tanks of Saipan Community School that faced the park.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted to do this on our own. As you can see, this is now a very beautiful park. The trees can shade the sun anytime of the day,\u201d said Tan.<\/p>\n
Two of the district\u2019s lawmakers, Rep. Oscar Babauta and Rep. Raymond Palacios, as well as Sen. Luis Crisostimo and Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Perry Tenorio attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.<\/p>\n
Tan said the revitalization of the Susupe Beach Park is the company\u2019s way of giving back to the community.<\/p>\n
The re-launching, he said, is very timely because next week is Thanksgiving and the Christmas season is coming up.<\/p>\n
Tan also gave special thanks to the Tan Holdings management team that include Lynn Knight, Ivan Quichocho, Ed Arriola, and Eli Arago for making the project a success.<\/p>\n
He also gave kudos to Reliance Construction for helping them complete the revitalization of the Susupe landmark.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very happy to share this moment with you. We all can see a big difference now. If there\u2019s something else to add to the park, we are open for more suggestions,\u201d Tan said.<\/p>\n
Susupe Beach Park encompasses three pavilions\u2014one big and two smaller ones with a complete view of the ocean. There is also a big stage where people can organize events.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really proud that we were able to restore this. We can continue to promote this place and we promise that we shall maintain this. We really made the right decision and are extremely excited but this is only the beginning,\u201d Tan said.<\/p>\n
Rep. Babauta, for his part, said he hopes that youngsters would now use the park and appealed to them to make it a graffiti-free place.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is valuable to the community. We extend our appreciation to Tan Holdings Corp.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
A trio of ukulele performers\u2014Jonelie Torres, Jimin Ryu, and Bryan Cho\u2014from Saipan Community School kicked off the musical program.<\/p>\n
