{"id":12838,"date":"2011-10-04T08:11:34","date_gmt":"2011-10-04T08:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newspaper.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=12838"},"modified":"2011-10-04T08:11:34","modified_gmt":"2011-10-04T08:11:34","slug":"nmc-resumes-80-work-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmc-resumes-80-work-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC resumes 80 work hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Moneth Deposa<br \/>\nReporter<\/div>\n<p>About 200 employees of the Northern Marianas College can now heave a sigh of relief after the institution reinstated their 80-hour biweekly work schedule starting Saturday, the beginning of the new fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>Student Services dean Leo Pangelinan confirmed with Saipan Tribune yesterday that, unless the college management makes further adjustments, the 80-hour work schedule will be maintained until the end of fiscal year 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriday was the last day of the work-hour reduction and until NMC decides to do it again, we will keep the 80-hour schedule until end of the fiscal year,\u201d said Pangelinan.<\/p>\n<p>NMC was appropriated a $5.2 million budget this fiscal year. The bulk of the amount will be used to pay for personnel salaries and wages for the next 12-month period, from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the Board of Regents and NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart praised the Legislature&#8217;s decision to increase the college&#8217;s budget, allowing it to comply with federal rules governing financial grants. Hart said the approved budget saved NMC from losing millions of grants for students.<\/p>\n<p>Pangelinan said that Roger Madriaga, NMC&#8217;s chief financial officer, will complete a comprehensive budget analysis in which possible changes can be made on the existing salaries of NMC personnel.<\/p>\n<p>NMC employs about 200 people, including instructors, non-instructional faculty, staff, and administrators.<\/p>\n<p>NMC began implementing austerity Fridays in July due to a series of budget cuts.
