With still nine months left before the general elections in November, three aspirants have already approached Mayor Juan B. Tudela to ask for his support to succeed him.<\/p>\n
Tudela, who will complete his two full year terms this year, said, however, that he has not yet decided whom to support as his successor.<\/p>\n
He expects more interested candidates to approach him to get his backing.<\/p>\n
According to information the Mayor gathered recently, there are some eight individuals who want to run for the position.<\/p>\n
Those who have personally talked to him to ask for his support include former Secretary of the Department of Public Works Juan S. Reyes, former Secretary of Agriculture Donald Flores and former Rep. Candido Taman.<\/p>\n
Tudela said Taman would be running under the Covenant Party, which the mayor currently belongs to.<\/p>\n
Tudela said he is ready to retire and concentrate on farming but, at the same time, he is also thinking of running for a higher position, \u201cprobably for Lt. Governor.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Tudela said his children are not amenable to it.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy family will help me decide on it. I hope to get their blessing first before I decide on it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Mayor also mentioned about 11 possible candidates for the gubernatorial position but named only six of them, including former lieutenant governor Diego Benavente, McDonald\u2019s Saipan owner and general manager Joe Ayuyu, former governor Juan N. Babauta, Sen. Luis Crisostimo, Rep. Heinz Hofschneider, and the current governor, Benigno R. Fitial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
