{"id":129571,"date":"2009-01-13T18:07:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-13T18:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b31740dd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2009-01-13T18:07:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-13T18:07:00","slug":"b31740ed-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/b31740ed-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA solicits Environmental Award nominees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging citizens in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands to nominate a friend, peer or organization for this year&#8217;s U.S. EPA Environmental Awards program. <\/p>\n<p>Nominations can be submitted online beginning Jan. 7 and ending Feb. 8.<\/p>\n<p>The program seeks to recognize individuals and groups outside of the U.S. EPA who made significant contributions to improve the environment in the year 2008. Anyone can be nominated, such as scientists, teachers, journalists, citizen activists, young people, organizations, business representatives, public officials and others committed to protecting public health and preserving our natural surroundings. <\/p>\n<p>Entries will be judged on the following criteria: <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 promotion of innovative ideas, techniques, and\/or technologies <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 ability to address an environmental problem or need <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 accomplishment of stated goals <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 ability of the program\/activity to be replicated or widely shared <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 collaboration with others <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 clarity and effectiveness of the presentation <\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 long-term benefits for the environment <\/p>\n<p>The deadline to submit nominations online is Feb. 8. An EPA panel will review all of the applications and select this year&#8217;s winners, who will be notified by mid-March.
