{"id":129922,"date":"2009-01-26T20:45:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-26T20:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b3270f48-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2009-01-26T20:45:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-26T20:45:00","slug":"b3270f59-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/b3270f59-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism council elects 2009 officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Marianas Tourism Education Council has elected its 2009 officers as it prepares for another year of activities educating the community.<\/p>\n<p>The new officers are Council chair Ed Cho (Saipan Grand Hotel), vice chair Vicky Benavente (PIC Saipan), secretary Coreen Palacios (Public School System), and treasurer Nhing Reyes (Ernst &#038; Young).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith tourism as the sole remaining industry supporting the CNMI economy, the role of MTEC to maintain dialogue with the community becomes even more important,\u201d said Cho.  \u201cOur goals in 2009 include educating the community on how each individual can make a difference in strengthening tourism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In February MTEC launches its first television ad campaign.  Other activities planned for the year include increased outreach to school MY WAVE (Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically) clubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking for new ways to collaborate with the younger generation,\u201d said Cho. \u201cTourism is our present and their future, so we want to support their active participation in learning about the industry, welcoming visitors, and gaining skills to become our future workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MTEC is a nonprofit organization promoting community awareness on the importance of the visitor industry in the CNMI.
