Kagman High School proved that its first win against Southern High School was no fluke after cruising to an impressive 65-52 triumph in their second meeting in the 2008-2009 MISO Basketball League Wednesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s division, the Lady Ayuyus walloped the Lady Rays, 65-35, for a repeat of the former\u2019s 44-31 win in their first meeting.<\/p>\n
Kagman\u2019s boys team defeated the defending champion Rays in the first outing, canning important free throws in the last one minute of the game en route to a close 59-57 victory.<\/p>\n
In the second meeting, Kagman made sure the game will be in the bag early in the fourth period.<\/p>\n
The Ayuyus were ahead by only three at the end of the third quarter, 43-40, when they stepped on the gas pedal in the fourth, outscoring Southern, 20-12, to improve to a 3-1 record.<\/p>\n
Kagman\u2019s lone loss in the league was at the hands of the MHS Dolphins, who are still unbeaten in two games.<\/p>\n
Southern remains winless after three matches.<\/p>\n
The Rays had only Vince Iglecias making more than a field goal in the first quarter, which ended with Kagman ahead by eight, 19-11.<\/p>\n
Southern picked up the scoring in the second period and at the same time tightened up its defense holding Kagman to six points to take the lead at halftime, 27-25.<\/p>\n
But the Rays failed to sustain their momentum in the second half losing their chances to enter the win column.<\/p>\n
Jimmy Brel paced Kagman with 14 points, while Edwin Camacho and Jesus Iguel chipped in 12 apiece. Trevor Ogumoro nailed 11, making all his points in the second half.<\/p>\n
Josh Kiyoshi led Southern\u2019s losing cause firing 18 points, while Iglecias was the only other Ray to score in double figures with 11 markers.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s division, Mercedes Mesa and Agatha Repeki combined for 38 points to lift the Lady Ayuyus to a 30-point win.<\/p>\n
Kagman shut out Southern in the first seven minutes of the game to take a commanding 17-0 lead. The Lady Ayuyus never looked back from thereon, despite Southern\u2019s much improved offensive game in the second half.<\/p>\n
Southern was held to three points in the first period and four in the second canto before making 28 points in the second half.<\/p>\n
After a hot start, the Lady Ayuyus slowed down in the next three periods, but their big 22-3 after the first quarter was enough to give them their third win in four games.<\/p>\n
