Is named for War in the Pacific National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Gibbons will serve as acting superintendent of War in the Pacific National Historical Park beginning in February 20, 2009.  He will serve at the park on Guam while the National Park Service (NPS) recruits for a permanent superintendent.  Gibbons follows Sarah Creachbaum who transferred to the superintendency of Haleakala National Park on Maui, Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>Gibbons, a 26-year employee of the NPS, coordinates the National Natural Landmark, Threatened and Endangered Species, and Research Natural Area programs for the NPS in the Pacific West Region, including Guam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have great confidence in Steve,\u201d said NPS Regional Director Jonathan B. Jarvis.  \u201cHe demonstrates leadership and confidence to his employees and park friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibbons has served as an acting superintendent before when he worked for 6 months at Kalaupapa National Historical Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am enthusiastic about working on Guam and Saipan,\u201d Gibbons said.  \u201cI want to continue the warm relations with our NPS partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The superintendent of War in the Pacific National Historical Park in the Territory of Guam also serves as the park manager for American Memorial Park on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.
