{"id":131144,"date":"2009-03-11T21:01:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-11T21:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b3a8cebc-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2009-03-11T21:01:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-11T21:01:00","slug":"b3a8cecd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/b3a8cecd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Six NMI students win in Guam music fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six members of the Southern High School Band have been invited to the command performance of the 2nd Tumon Bay Music Festival after winning gold medals earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>The command performance concludes the competition and gathers the previous days\u2019 winners in all the categories for a final show.<\/p>\n<p>The six students from the CNMI bagged gold medals in solo performance and rock and jazz. <\/p>\n<p>Haelin Kim was the top winner in the solo competition after dazzling spectators with her talent and skill using the cello.<\/p>\n<p>Five Manta Ray Band members were honored in the rock band category\u2014Joseph Jang, Vincent Choi, Sang Woo, Yoon Choi, and Chang Kang\u2014collectively known as SSHS Manta Flyerz.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the entire Manta Ray Band will defend its title in the concert category.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lois DeWitt, wife of the group\u2019s musical conductor and director Will DeWitt, the Manta Ray Band is having daily rehearsals to prepare for their performance on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>They are also having band clinics under the direction of famous Japanese band instructor, Miestro.<\/p>\n<p>The following are the initial winners of the 2nd Annual Tumon Music Festival:<\/p>\n<p> -Choir category: Harvest Christian Academy Honor Choir (elementary); Cdr. William C.
