The Department of Public Works is expected to issue in the next few days a notice to proceed with the construction of two federally funded multi-million road projects on Tinian and Rota.<\/p>\n
DPW Secretary Diego B. Songsong told Saipan Tribune that in a week or a week and a half, they will give the go-signal for the start of the Route 201 construction and improvement project on Tinian and the Route II Sabana Road and drainage improvement project on Rota.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we get all the required signatures, the construction of the two projects will commence anytime from now,\u201d Songsong said.<\/p>\n
Maeda Pacific Corp. won the bidding for the construction of the Tinian project. The company was awarded the $1,385,000 project. Another $193,000 budget is intended for construction management services.<\/p>\n
GPPC Inc. bagged the Rota construction project worth $2,788,800. Another $373,000 is budgeted for construction management services.<\/p>\n
DPW Technical Services director Joseph Inos Jr. said the two projects are fully funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Highway Administration.<\/p>\n
As for the multi-million Cross Island project (Back Road reconstruction and expansion) on Saipan, Inos said they issued an addendum to indefinitely prolong the previous deadline schedules.<\/p>\n
Inos said they gave the contractor additional time to procure construction management services.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now we are working on acquiring a construction manager and getting their proper documents to get the contract going. Once we get the [construction manager] we can initiate the project\u2019s schedule,\u201d Inos said.<\/p>\n
Under the federally funded Cross Island Project, a new four-lane highway will be built from San Vicente to Capital Hill.<\/p>\n
Songsong said the project will require the demolition of the Round House in San Vicente and the construction of a traffic signal light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
