For all softball enthusiasts, there will be a double-elimination medical fundraiser tournament for 12-year-old Jesus C. Attao. The competition will be held from June 17 to June 19 at the Capital Hill Ballfield.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the goodwill event will be donated to help defray the medical costs associated from a series of vital surgeries that the young man must endure in the coming months.<\/p>\n
Attao was born with cleft lip and palate, which is a condition where the two plates of the skull that form the roof of the mouth are not completely joined. Approximately 1 in 700 children born have a cleft lip (cheiloschisis) and\/or cleft palate (palatoschisis) worldwide. <\/p>\n
A cleft is an opening or gap, in this case, at the crack of Attao\u2019s upper lip. <\/p>\n
They can also affect other parts of the face such as the eyes, ears, nose, cheeks, and forehead.<\/p>\n
Clefts can be successfully treated with surgery, especially if conducted soon after birth or during early childhood.<\/p>\n
Entrance fee to participate is $125 per team. Eight teams are already confirmed and organizers are hoping to accrue at least 15 teams.<\/p>\n
At least three girls must be on each team and two girls must play out in the field at all times. <\/p>\n
Depending on the turnout, games start hourly at 6:30pm on June 17 until 10:30pm; continue all day Saturday, starting at 8:30am to 9:30pm; and again all day Sunday from 8:30am until its expected 7pm conclusion that night.<\/p>\n
Organizers are holding a meeting at 6pm today, June 8, at the Capital Hill Ballfield.<\/p>\n
