(Contributed Photo)\" width=\"100\" height=\"82\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0Not that they needed one, but anglers on Rota found one more excuse to go fishing-the Rota Cliff Fishing Derby on Sept. 9-11.<\/p>\n<p>A once-popular tournament revived by the Marianas Visitors Authority and co-sponsors last year, the event aimed to attract visitors to the tropical island for competition at three well-known fishing sites, As Matmos, Malilok, and Pona Point. The 2011 derby of the event attracted 22 anglers from Saipan, Rota, and Guam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast month&#8217;s derby was another opportunity to draw visitors to Rota,\u201d said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. \u201cRota is a jewel in the string of the Marianas, and this year&#8217;s event sponsors worked diligently to prepare for the weekend-the Rota Mayor&#8217;s Office, Rota Municipal Council, the Rota Legislative Delegation, and Guam Ambros, Inc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking top place in the \u201cBiggest\u201d Category were Andrei Mendiola with a 6.95-lb Titan trigger fish, followed by Isidro Pabeda with a 6.6-lb.
